as a young man I worked as a caddieat the Peterborough Golf and Country Club
after a few months and a couple of rounds with the club pro
I got a job as a steady caddie for the senior member of the club
his name was Ted Flummerfelt and he was 82 years old
I was caddying for him when he shot an 81
81 at 82
the foursome we were with had quieted considerably
over the last few holes
speaking only when spoken to
when Mr. Flummerfelt dropped a long uphill putt on 18
for a birdie
they broke into applause, long loud cheers
Mr. Flummerfelt had been playing golf a long time
and took everything in stride, he was a quiet man
this game and this day like every other
he paid me, I took his clubs to the clubhouse
and then I headed home
the next day he called early as usual
he wanted to get a quick nine holes of practice
before he played with his regular foursome
at noon
