the on-going dilemma of small change
we were sitting in a greek restaurant
and remembering our time in greece
our table was in the window
and with the sun coming in hard
catching us full on the face
the illusion was easy
until a drunken man
collapsed into the window
gravity and glass conspiring against him
he quickly righted himself
and navigated a slow arcing shuffle
down the street
towards miserable sobriety
or the glow of more wine
i know people who refuse to give change
if they figure it will go to drink
i find that life sometimes weighs heavy
after a long day of work
and when it does
i love a glass of red to soothe the beast
and if it is a crutch
the taste is sweet
i find that life is frequently joyous
i'm healthy
in love and fully loved
unable to dance appropriately
i sometimes celebrate
with a glass of white
the cold music of grace
hypnotizing as it soars
life is hard enough
for all of us
