it is longing
it is longing
for someone lost
or not yet contained
and that longing
aches in the gut
and pulls at your bones
till your joints scream
and it is longing
for change
true pain is the desire for different circumstance
for the dogs to quit bleeding on the carpet
for the woman of your desire
to recognize your need
it is the arms that will not hold you
when you need the warmth of her touch
it is the endless ringing
when you phone late at night
and then early in the morning
