i dream charlie parker dreams
when i dream of loving you
where every note of a song
becomes something i can see
the colours slowing down
and light appears in the spaces
where sound might occur
i see collections i never imagined
a great jazz riff
subtle as a kiss and a whisper
or the smell of you
lingering on the pillows
i hear the bathtub filling
it is a sound coming to me
through sleep and dreams
and early morning defiance
of the sun and its natural grace
i reach across the expanse
of our marriage bed
to find you
open my eyes
to see you walking towards the bed
naked and smiling
bringing me joy
the morning begins
i jump in
