your steps on the stairs
My heart sometimes jumps in my chest
Yesterday , for instance
Dusk was falling
And you came through the door smiling
Raising all my hopes
Like you do every time
I remember feeling such terrible jealousy
Nestled in with the joy when i saw friends in love
Gushing in their giddy sharing
Vagabond love had been all i'd allowed myself
And you came through the door smiling
Leaving me only the silly melancholy of these poems
Earnest and heartfelt
Near to collapsing under the weight
The weight of time lost
I suspect i regret only those moments lost
Needing to feel the joy i feel
Every time i hear your steps on the stairs
